This week AOTW : 愛 Once by Self in Decay
The replication of various physical media formats and the different ways they malfunction has been a constant presence in vaporwave since the very beginning. A pair of new releases, 愛 Once and its elder twin 家 Again from a couple weeks ago, recreate the sound of a broken DIscman skipping and stuttering its way through a scratched up CD. Combined with the pitch-shifting of a classic sampler, Dan Mason uses this project to mine a very rich vein of digital R&B and smooth jazz, breaking the songs apart in a way that will be pleasingly familiar to any lover of classic vapor. Could there be another volume or two in store?
